The Paihia School Science Fair

In Te Ngahere, we had our Science Fair on the 9th of August. It was so exciting for me because science is my favourite subject and in my spare time I’m studying physics and astrophysics. We each had different projects and some of us did the same, for example, some people did rat traps and some people did water quality. Each class in our school came to the whare to see what we had done in science. I don’t know how many people came to our board but that’s not the point. At assembly the winners were announced. We didn’t win but at least we tried our best. What I enjoyed was kids coming to our boards because they might have learnt some facts while they were reading the board.  What I could do better next time is not argue over little things like who is going to talk all the way or who is going to answer the questions.

Science Fair Project

In Te Ngahere, we have been working on our science experiment. My group was Franky and Mikaire, our experiment is Which foods attract rats the most? We chose this question because rats have been coming into our school and we want to be pest free. We tested this experiment with 3 foods, Peanut Butter, Cheese and Dried fruit. On day 1 we caught a big rat on the dried fruit trap. Day 2, 3, 4 we didn’t catch any, day 5 some rats ate some dried fruit and some cheese without setting off the trap and day 6 we didn’t catch any rats. The reason we were doing this is for our science fair which is on the 9th of August 2019. What I enjoyed was setting up the traps and catching the rats because it’s making our school pest free. What I could do better with the traps is not check the traps with little kids watching me because they might do the same thing as me and go over the fence.

The Ned Mindset Show

In Te Ngahere, we went to our school marae to see Ned to talk about mindset. This woman called Nicole mostly talked about mindset and what your mind can do. We learnt about what Ned means, which is Never give up, Encourage another and Do your best. We also learnt why mindset is important to our brain, and what fuel our brain needs. While Nicole was talking about mindset and our brain we watch the journey of Ned’s journey to mount Everest, Courage Island and a spaceship that's a brain. What I enjoyed was Nicole doing magic because it electrified some little kids.
